Our Mission

Stripes Performance is striving to raise awareness about mental health and erase the stigma toward sports officials. We are committed to provide our community with one-on-one support, mentorship opportunities, and unique benefits to help create a safe and transparent workplace. Building the Community

Building the Community

After the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world, the game of hockey saw its return in 2021. However, officiating staff around the province was severely impacted and a plan was needed to bring back the community. Richmond Jets Officiating Coordinator Brandy Brundige stepped up and transformed a few dozen officials into a community of 200+ members.

Throughout the years, Stripes Performance has attracted officials all over BC to participate in its events. Officials from the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, and Thompson-Okanagan regions have also joined its mentorship team to deliver coaching opportunities. With such a large reach, Richmond Jets alumni Christian Yip helped create infrastructure for the vast community to engage and learn while off the ice through its website and Discord server.

Developing the Next Generation

Developing the Next Generation

Despite the successful return to hockey, many officials lacked the skills and training due to the pandemic. So in the summer of 2022, Stripes Performance was founded Brandy Brundige and Christian Yip to help provide resources and education. In an effort to deliver coaching and mentorship opportunities, the Richmond Jets sent a record of nine officials to summer officiating camps. Six officials attended BC Hockey summer officiating camps and three officials attended the BCHL officiating development camp.

Since then, Stripes Performance has expanded to over 200 members and its commitment to developing officials has led them to deliver new experiences and events. Its growing network of officiating coaches and mentors has also allowed them to provide more development opportunities, making them a leader in officiating growth at the grassroots level. As a result, Stripes Performance has created its own evaluation system and officiating awards for the 2023-24 season, recognizing the hard work and dedication of its community members.

Creating Unique Experiences

Creating Unique Opportunities

Just like professional athletes, Stripes Performance wanted to provide its officials with apparel, gear, and benefits to make them feel part of the team. So in 2023, Stripes Performance made its first partnership with BioSteel Sports. Throughout the season, BioSteel has powered all Stripes Performance events with hydration, towels, and other amenities that NHL players are provided with.

Moreover, its connection with the hockey community has given its officials the opportunity to officiate WHL and BCHL special events and prospect camps. Entering the 2023-24 season, Stripes Performance will be the first in BC to implement the Green Armband Initiative. This movement aims to address abuse toward young officials and raise awareness about mental health. They will also be leading a new Mic’d Up series to better showcase effective communication between officials, players, and coaches.
